Sex, Drugs and Death Metal is the band’s fourth and most accomplished album to date. The band has progressed from their raw and sloppy days to a point where they are capable of pulling off some pounding death metal that has its moments of grind madness but also has more than its share of catchy grooves and some well thought out breaks. The music on the whole is a straight progression from their last album, Receptive When Beaten with the band focusing on a Suffocation gone grind jamming in Slayer’s car park type of sound. The songs are all heavy as fuck and most of them have a catchy groove happening that is pretty cool. Stand out tracks include Down in Flames with a break in the middle that is reminiscent of Slayer, Losing My Mind which has a thrashy vibe but still pounds your head in with the brutal death, Straight From The Slums which is another brutal bruising death metal song and album opener I Live For This Shit which is some old school death metal worship but with a bit of grind thrown in for good measure. The band sounds fresh and intense on this album while being unapologetically old school throughout these eight songs that last for a little less than 30 minutes. They also sound a bit more polished and a little less rough around the edges on Sex, Drugs and Death Metal which is a good thing as the band seems more confident with their songs and there’s no need to hide behind the noise anymore. Overall, if you can get past the subject matter of these songs then Waco Jesus has produced a very enjoyable and heavy as fuck album of death metal. If you’re interested in the genre at all, then you need to check this album out. Label - Waco Productions Year of Release - 2009
