Evisceration Plague is the band's eleventh album in a career spanning over twenty years. In that time, the band has been there, done that and written the rule book for a whole generation of death metal bands. At the same time, the band has managed to stay relevant and has kept attracting younger audiences to their gore infused death metal. I haven't heard anything by the band since 1999's Bloodthirst which saw them hit a  new level of brutality with Corpsegrinder putting to rest the ghost of Chris Barnes and the band delivering a truly brutal and aggressive album.

Ten years down the line, little seems to have changed. Evisceration Plague is some more of what the band does best. The twelve songs on offer here don't really break any new ground and I doubt if the band wanted to break any new ground apart from getting heavier and more brutal with every album. If that was their aim, then they have succeeded. The problem with Evisceration Plague though is that it takes a while to really grab you. The first few songs are pretty much your standard order death metal that while being ultra heavy and brutal really don't do justice to the band's reputation and back catalog.

In fact, it's only song number four, A Cauldron of Hate that finally made me sit up and take notice with its mid tempo death metal groove and a typically aggressive Corpsegrinder vocal performance. This song could have come off The Bleeding if not for Fisher's far superior vocal chops. After this though, it's another case of very little happening as songs just go by without really making any sort of impression till the title song turns up in the second half of the album and basically destroys everything that came before it. This is followed up by four very strong songs that end the album. Shatter Their Bones is pure old school Corpse with enough energy to light up a small town while Carrion Sculpted Entity and Unnatural both throw in a few changes into the band's sound to keep things interesting. Skewered from Ear to Ear closes the album out on a high with its tech death approach falling somewhere between Gorguts and Corpse's own distinct style.

Evisceration Plague is a bit uneven and not the most consistent effort from this band but there are are enough killer songs on the album to keep most fans of the band satisfied.
