When you get a hold of this 26 min disc, apart from the wicked cover artwork, you get a chance to own the bastard child of hardcore punk, thrash and doom metal. One of many, yes. But this guy is the gruff, raging and unapologetic janitor who works at the local distillation plant, beating up dudes with his sludge-crusted mop. Opening Seasons Of Evil, is the slow paced instrumental, Ride The Lighter - a nod to Metallica perhaps, although this song has little to do with ‘em (Kill ‘em all is the weapon of choice a little later on) - a loose, jammy, bluesy affair which, if anything, leaves you completely stranded when its successor, To The Eel begins with its vicious crossover assault. Knowing the value of brevity in the aforementioned art form, just before the metal/punk aggression loses its steam, The Fucking Wrath decide to go all Black Sabbath on our asses. With a groove that would fit right in on the Kalas s/t these grimy rockers make sure you aren’t about to bail anytime soon. Even though the majority of riffs found on this album are derivative and not path breaking by any means, Seasons Of Evil does not have one boring moment and is loads of fun. With High On Fire, Black Sabbath, Black Flag, Discharge, Agnostic Front, Misfits, Metallica and most importantly Motorhead on their palette, The Fucking Wrath paint an ugly, balls out rockin’ portrait all right. Warts included (pun intended). Some of the album highlights include the Mastodonish This Bear Blows Fire, the upbeat Past Your Grave, The Defeater, the eccentric Hell Flies Tonight and the awesome album closer, The Old Man And The Sea (which is the longest song on the album clocking in at 4:10). But hell, I was sold into the first minute of To The Eels. The album’s production is top notch, keeping things fuzzy, raw and organic and the instruments counting the abrasive vocals sound fantastic. The only problem I have with this disc is that even though its great fun I’m scared that the sheen will wear off after repeated listening, with each spin turning into guess which band influenced this riff contest. Until then (if there even is a ‘then’) I’m blasting The Fucking Wrath at full volume.
