I'm in this shitty gaonwalla college, so I'm regularly treated to jeers of "Rock on!" and regularly mistaken for a female (more because I cant grow more than 3 hairs on my face though..)

English teacher: --insert accent here-- "Who keep this hair for show or what or because of religious reasons?"
Me: "Uh, religious!"
Her: "Oh, which religion?"
Me: "Uh, atheism.. >_>"
Her: "Oh okay"
Me: :/

My grandma's discussion with me on the matter of hair:

Grandma: I have 6 grand-daughters and only one grandson. Please don't go over to the other side!
Me: Hey ammachy, I have a plan. Get some of my cousins to stop threading their upper lips and the balance should be good again.


Once I dropped in at my cousin's place in Cochin and around afternoon, I felt like a snooze, so I crashed face-down on the bed in his bedroom. All events after this are obviously second-hand reports, since I was out of it. Maid comes in after some time, does a double-take and runs to the kitchen to see my aunt.

Maid: Chechi, there's some strange girl in Naveen's bed!
Aunt: What?! (stomps upstairs and comes into the bedroom, then slaps her forehead. she grabs the maid) That doesn't look like any girl I ever saw! (points at my furry legs to make her point)

LOL @ Chax. Since I'm mallu I totally understand and sympathize with him.

F'Akhtar has changed the equation a little bit. Many in my family now think they know everything about rock music, the musicians and their fans (me) because they've seen Rock On. The Bombay folks wanted to take me to watch the movie when I was there. They were asking me if I was planning to grow my hair long (again) and perform on stage with my rock band. May be next time I should tell them more about the sabbath rip-off bands that I have and may be get them to finance the album production.
