Stuff that's not genre-related. Yea, it's confusing, but I do most of the posting anyway so shaddup
Nintendo unveils new DS
The new unit, called the "DSi" will keep the trademark double-screen (DS), while expanding the screens to 3.5 inches, a 17 percent increase in size....
The outside of the case gets a 0.3 MP VGA (640x480) resolution camera...New games will be able to harness the camera functionality for unique new gameplay. Further, the new DS comes with a free paint program so users can edit their pictures.
The new unit also will come with an advanced web browser, so users can send their new pictures over the internet if they have a wi-fi function.
The other highly touted feature of the Swiss-army knife-like DS is music functionality...

Now you know why you haven't been topping the scoreboards, winning tournaments and becoming minor celebrities. Because you haven't been eating THIS.

From their website:
Think fast and win more with Gamer Grub.
Gamer Grub is a great tasting snack that boosts your core gaming systems, such as visual input, cognitive processing, signal transmission and muscle reflexes for maximum gaming performance.
I say! So they're like gaming steroids? Are you allowed to consume performance enhancing drugs during tournaments?
Typical reactions:
My guess is that the sugar will help more than anything. If it has sugar, that is. I'm having a hard time actually figuring out what this food is supposed to be, as the four flavors - Action Pizza, Racing Wasabi, Sports PB&J and Strategy Chocolate - all imply, to me, a different type of snack. My tongue is seizing when imagining a dire substrate that can support both chocolate or pizza.

Probably has caffeine mixed in. Anyway it's all bullshit, it's like fruit vitamins in shampoos...or for a matter of fact, any ingredient other than detergent in shampoo.
Edit: So it has some vitamins and shit...nothing that a normal diet won't give you at far more economical rates.

Anandtech's brilliant and rousing piece on how ATI turned the tide with the Radeon 48xx series:
Awesome link HERE
Highly recommended reading IMO, even if you're completely uninterested in the tech.

GamesRadar's list of the prettiest games of 2008 HERE
A nicely chosen list of the games that aren't all gray and brown and dystopian.

Yahtzee's review of Sonic Unleashed is his best in a while. I'm still in splits at the has-been rockstar analogy. And this part:
"Watashi Washi Bashi Boshi"

Looks like they focused mostly on racism and weird-ass portrayals of minorities. Postal is pretty nonpartisan in its carnage, I think.

Gamasutra hosts a feature on the AI design in the racing game Pure...which is pretty interesting so far as racing game AI goes IMO: Race to Click!
When developing the AI in Pure, we wanted to create a system which always provided convincing, fair and interesting races for the player. We wanted to challenge the player by spreading out the field, while keeping rivals close but not punishing them too much for making mistakes. Races in video games need to be managed well to make them exciting; otherwise the player will almost always stay ahead or fall behind the pack and stay there.

Cracked looks at Perverted Old-Skool Video Games: Sleazy Link
Boong-Ga Boong-Ga (Arcade)
Developed by Koreans for the Japanese, Boong-Ga Boong-Ga is the first arcade game that combines of assaulting assholes and fortune-telling. You select from eight characters like "Mother-in-Law," "Con artist" and "Child Molester" and then, steel yourself for this, you ram a giant plastic finger into an ass that protrudes out from the arcade unit next to the words "HAVE A FUN!! ENJOY." As you poke, spank and probe, the game plays an animation of your victim wailing in pain, and then the game, and I'm not fucking kidding, rates your sexual virility based on the impact of your finger against its virtual colon. Oh, and its corporate mascot is a six-foot magical monster made out of turd.

So far, the only Escapist 'column' I'd been following religiously was ZP (incidentally, the Halo Wars review was brilliant - "As the frustrated Chinese zookeeper said to the last male panda on Earth, 'Fuck that!'"). However, I think it'd be safe to add Unskippable to my list now - was sent there on good advice from this week's ZP. Check out this treatment of Resident Evil 5 for proof.

Thanks for the head's up Chax. I saw the first episode of Unskippable and found it imminently skippable but these guys have really got their act together. This one and the Yahtze special appearance episode were both great.

Yeah, some of the early ones were hit or miss, but like you said, they've gotten tighter since. Other favourites of mine are their Dirge of Cerberus and Grandia videos.
