^^ Haven't seen the review (I usually don't read his reviews of games I want to play before I play them), but it seems that the PC version is broken for ATI card users running Windows 7 or Vista. Plus, some issue supporting quad cores. No real word on a fix yet, though there are some workarounds that involve shutting down all but one core. Not much goodwill with the PC gamer crowd happening.

stumbled across an interesting link about using the Nintendo wii remote for head tracking. The video's been up for some time now but I'm not sure if anything's been done with this. chacko, ravenus?

Makes for interesting viewing though.

Not that I've heard of - Nintendo's still mostly tapping the casual market, so if anything gets done on these lines, it'll most likely be some virtual tour type thing, rather than an out and out shooter. The guy has been hired by Microsoft, so he's probably on the team for the whole Project Natal scene on the Xbox.

I am wary of most of these motion tracking things. I prefer the controller to do stuff when I specifically order it to.

Well, these motion trackers will most definitely be used in tandem with a regular controller (or a lightgun), so your main actions will still have tactile feedback. It's just the extra immersion that a pseudo VR system will generate. All depends on how well a game incorporates it, ultimately.

Treyarch's Call of Duty

A surprisingly interesting article on Treyarch's different approach to their CoD instalments.
In contrast, Treyarch's games emphasize characters and interpersonal conflict. "We're on a secret mission to get coffee and donuts," McMillan explains in the opening of Call of Duty 3. "The problem is the Germans ate all the donuts and drank all the coffee so now we gotta kick their asses." It's a startling line, both in its crude condensation of World War II and in its glibness in sanctioning violence. It also captures the need-to-know basis of soldierly motivation
