Great review for a terrific album. I still prefer the Deicide a bit because I like my DM on the slightly atonal chaotic side but this one slays. I actually saw these guys live and they were spectacular. Which led me to download Hell's Unleashed which was kinda like a Def Leppard death metal album; very catchy but ultimately terribly boring after the first couple of listens.

Oh yeah. I've been tripping on the new deicide big time. I think what happened with Unleashed was i wasn;t expecting anything at all from this album and it turned out to be great. I've mailed Hedlund for an interview so if he says yes it should be fun.

The vocals are surprisingly articulate, which lends the mischievous lyrics some extra weight. I'd get into trouble playing this at home, I think. Oh, and nice review.

good shit GK. this one's a very strong contender for AotY. the Deicide is quite awesome but this one trumps it quite easily in my books for various reasons, the least of which is my predilection for swedeath.

I beg to differ. I like it a lot but not even close to my fav so far this year. That would be the Atrox, Monolith Deathcult and Hollenthon. And Unleashed have always been a band that hasn't held up to repeat listens. Six months down the line Hammer Battalion might be as boring as watching paint dry.
