@ Asmo - howdya like Obscura? I thought it was too busy to be really entertaining. Everytime they got a decent groove going, the guitarist would go all wheedly wheedly wank wank wank (yeah I know. I generally like this shit but it just didn't work for me, this time. Pretty much like Necrophagist never has). Got bored with it super fast. Polarity by Decrepit Birth seems to be cut from the same cloth.
The new Cephalic Carnage takes off from where the last two left off with some more melodic singing bits and longer doomy segments. Still very staccato and furious overall. Love it totally on first listen.

Bad DNA by Marty Friedman is a lot better than his last two in my book. I'd seriously started losing interest in him post music for speeding but this is furiously heavy and very interesting.

Well, though i remember very little from what i heard, neither was i bored, or irritated while listening to Obscura. Found quite some Death influences, and the Eiffel 65 reference, which i really want to ask the band about.
Adding on:
Iron Maiden - The X Factor: 2AM!

Just had my ass kicked by Helmet's latest. I'd kinda given up on these guys after being super disappointed with Size Matters where an all star line up of Hamilton, metal's biggest underperformer John Tempesta and Frank Bello could come up with an album that had just one memorable song (Crashing Foreign Cars). I either didn't bother listening to Monochrome or don't remember a thing from it. Which brings us to Seeing Eye Dog. This was another of those downloads done out of a vague sense of obligation to a band that I like some three albums by a great deal. Anyhow, on first listen Hamilton appears to have accomplished something quite unique and impossible. The vocals always the weakest link in Helmet sound great with some super sweet harmonising that seems right out of King's X. In fact this album's best song, LA Water could sit comfortably on some of the heavier King's X releases like Dogman. And its not as if the melody gets in the way of the heaviness - this is some of the harshest most bone crushingly heavy music I've heard, this side of black metal. Excellent album start to finish and sure to make it to my end of the year best of lists. I wish the cover hadn't looked so bargain basement but if sucky covers are the price we have to pay for Hamilton getting his groove back, bring them on!
Heard the new Spiritual Beggars. Mildly interesting. One of the songs shamelessly rips off Doctor Doctor. I think these guys peaked around Ad Astra.
