For the past week or so I have only been listening to stuff from my collection that is redundant/that I wouldn't mind selling. I was not very exciting. I managed to select some 60 such titles though which I intend to sell at a local show this Sunday.

I hope next week will be a better one for music.
list those 60 titles here for us so maybe we may have the honour to pick a few if we need! :)

Over the weekend and the last few days...

Njiqahdda - Of Beasts and Blossoms ep These guys came to my attention sometime last year thanks to Kaustubh and they play this slightly weird psychedelic black metal thing and release about a 100 CDs a year. This ep is totally acoustic and mostly instrumental and incredibly boring.

Njiqahdda - Divisionals Full length album from this 2 piece band and this one rocks. They play out the same basic riff for 3-4 minutes generally but layer it with all sorts of sounds and vocals that are completely buried in the mix. This is pretty good.

Danzig - Blood Red Saboath New album from Evil Elvis and wow it's boring. 2 decent songs halfway through the album that sort of reminds me of his older stuff but overall it's just a dull, average album. What's Tommy Victor doing here? Completely wasted.

Across Tundras - Old World Warrior is one awesome album. The songs stick in my head, awesome production and some super bass playing. The music is the usual Sleep lite mixed in with grunge and country and alt rock and psychedelic sounds but this is the first time the band's got the combination of their sound right. Great stuff.

Hawkwind Triad This album is giving me a boner. Awesome from start to finish and Harvestman's D Rider, US Christmas's Master of the Universe and Minsk's Assault and Battery/ The Golden Void medley are just sublime in an album that's pretty full of fantastic songs.

Grand Magus - Hammer of the North Couple of decent songs but most of this album just goes past as background music and it's over before I know it. Boring and doubt if I'll come back to this.

Harvestman - In A Dark Tongue Spaced out psychedelia mixed in with folk and general weirdness. This is one awesome album late at night when the head's buzzing and the body refuses to move and you're stuck on the bed unable to close your eyes.

US Christmas - Salt the Wound More spaced out psychedelic weirdness but mostly like a heavier and more inventive version of early Monster Magnet. Great stuff and they're supposed to have gotten better on the other albums.

Heard Out of the Tunnel's Mouth another stellar album by Steve Hackett. Inspired, i went back and checked out Till We Have Faces his 'world music' album and this one too kicks ass for most part. Hearing The Guessing Game by Cathedral. I like this album almost as much as I do The Ethereal Mirror.

Fuck, Atheist managed the near impossible on Elements - creating a joyous sounding death metal album without getting into the cheesy BS of the likes of In Flames and At The Gaytes. What a terrific album this is!

Jarboe and Kris Force - The Path Awesome soundtrack to some video game based on little red riding hood and the wolf, this is a collaboration between jarboe and kris force from amber asylum. Sublime ambient darkwave sound scapes and goes from the gentle and calm to the eerie and disturbing. Now hopefully the two women will team up again for a proper full length album.

My discman stopped working, one of my speakers is not working properly and my system and both my speakers are out for repairs. I last heard Putrevore - Morphed from Deadbreath. Pretty decent pounding old style death metal with a rotten vibe. It has Rogga Johansson on guitars and Dave Rotten on vocals.

Von Thronstahl - Conscriptvm 2 CD marathon new album from this German group with its usual mix of martial, ambient, folk, classical and industrial music styles. Not sure how exactly to classify these guys but they sound like a whole bunch of European folk styles colliding with classical music and a martial beat that provides a very unsettling back beat. Over 2 hours of stunning music but not something I'd listen to all the time.

The New Pornographers - Together More lightweight indi pop rock and not as catchy as the last one. More listens will probably happen.

Yakuza - Of Seismic Consequence Same old Yakuza. Boring heavy parts mixed in with some stunning slow experimental sections with horns and trumpets and god knows what else. Overall, pretty much the same as the last couple of albums. Mostly boring but they make me sit up and take notice once in a while. Testing the Waters is one awesome song.

Aphex Twin - I Care Because You Do Been listening to this on loop for the last 2-3 days. Great stuff - a couple of bland songs but great for the most part. The opener Acrid Avid Jam Shred is one of his best tracks.

Xasthur - Portal Of Sorrow Meh. Malefic's last album under the Xasthur moniker apparently. Well, its more of the usual Xasthur-styled riffing - except that there are eerie high-pitched female vocals throughout the album and all the songs have an unabashed melodic element to them [sometimes reminiscent of Lugubrum - but nowhere in their league of course]. So far so good but you need a good sound and good production for this type of stuff which Malefic miserably lacks. Not worth looking into.

Fungoid Stream - Oceanus I was never a BIG fan of their first one (not nearly as much as it was hyped by some ppl just because it was an obscure release from Argentina) but they did have something interesting going on. This one is good funeral doom as well, with the usual gloomy keyboards and otherworldly sound and whatnot. But man oh man can't they get a drum machine FFS?! MIDI drums? Seriously? Their second album even... Huge turn off for an otherwise good album.

Over the last week or so:
- UNKLE - War Stories - Works great as a wake-up soundtrack you don't need to pay a lot of attention to. That being said, i'll try to listen to this one again.
- Arch Enemy - Rise of the Tyrant - Ho hum, decent melodies in some tunes, average at best
- Dillinger Escape Plan - Irony Is A Dead Scene EP: Keep coming back to this fuckin awesome piece of work. Craziness. Especially "Pig Latin" and the cover for "Come to Daddy"
- Metallica - Kill Em All: Heard it again after a long, long time. Rediscovered the catchy, yet simple riffs that got me hooked to bass
- Megadeth - Killing Is My Business: Only because i'd heard "The Four Horsemen", and wanted to check out "The Mechanix" again.
- Guns N Roses - Chinese Democracy: Honestly, i liked this. Sounds cheesy in parts, but it's still got the fire of GnR.
- A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step: Beautiful album. Almost every bit of it is great.
- Kissin' Dynamite - Addicted To Metal: Standard Metal album. Pretty fun as music not to pay attention to.
- Ananda Shankar - Ananda Shankar: Cheesy, hippie, fun!
- Behemoth - Evangelion: I really like "Lucifer"; I can see how DR emulates them, or at least tries to
- The Devin Townsend Project - Addicted: Great, great album. Never really got it on the first listen some months back, but this time, it just blew me away.
