Jarboe - 13 Masks Pretty much starting from where she left off on her debut, this is more ethereal weird and densely layered music with jarboe's voice acting like another instrument. Her lyrics are powerful and her singing was always very distinctive and its no different here. Awesome album and probably my favourite among her solo albums.
Nadja/ A Storm of Light - Primitive North ep More drone doom post metal shenanigans but with both bands covering each other. Long depressing songs heavy on atmosphere and Nadja's rumble is really heavier than most.

For the past week or so I have only been listening to stuff from my collection that is redundant/that I wouldn't mind selling. It was not very exciting. I managed to select some 60 such titles though which I intend to sell at a local show this Sunday.
I hope next week will be a better one for music.

Mekong Delta - Waanderer on the Edge of Time Very impressive new album with some killer riffs and great songs. No idea what the concept is but it works well as one 50 minute song with tons of killer parts and some very cool vocals.
Kingdom of Sorrow - Behind the Blackest Tears I missed their debut for some reason but this new album sounds a bit like Pantera but with Dinebag's guitar tone replaced with Kirk Windstein's big fat monster guitar tone. Overall couple of decent songs but i lose interest every time Jasta opens his mouth which happens a lot.
And after some 6-7 years of silence there's a new Starkweather - This Sheltering Night. I'd forgotten about this band and now need to pull out Croatoan. This is some intense noisy hardcore meets metal and at times seems like a direct reaction to being called one of the founders of the american metalcore scene. This is typically claustrophobic with no hint of melody apart from the odd carefully placed vocal harmony and vaguely metal sounding guitar lead. Awesome shit and with Integrity and these guys both coming back this year with killer albums all I really need is a new Bloodlet album.

One 50 minute song? Scary. I liked that Lurking Fear album a good deal, so perhaps I should try this.

Not really one song. It's broken up into some 15 pieces but flows very smoothly like one long song. It's quite awesome and probably the first of their albums that I liked all the way through.

Have grown to like Road Salt One a lot. I'm worried by this development.

Still hearing a lot of Road Salt One. Play yard blues by John Norum is one of those 'buy if you get it cheap' albums. Some absolutely stellar songs undermined by some very mediocre ones.
Heard IV by Winger. Terrific album start to finish with some massive shred courtesy Beach.

Getting my ass kicked by the new Starkweather and Integrity albums. The Mekong Delta's pretty awesome too and Sleepy Sun is still getting a lot of play. Too many things on my damn shopping list.

Been listening to Geezer's Black Science album the last couple of days. I used to like this a lot and these songs are still damn catchy. Sort of like modern groove metal but with some electronic elements. Turns out the band had one more album after this called ohmworks. Anybody heard it? This was news to me. Also heard the new Grand Magus - Hammer of the North which is even more trad metal than before and pretty good for what it is but i miss the heaviness of Wolf's Return and the epic feel of Iron Will. I think those two albums will stay favourites as far as this band goes. Also heard the new Cypress Hill - Rise Up which is one solid rap/hip hop album with a bunch of guests and the band's usual odes to mary jane, cheech and chong and all things herbal and green. Tom Morello guests on the two most disappointing songs on this album with what sounds like recycled Audioslave riffs and I guess thats what he's going to be doing from now on. Recycle RATM for Audioslave and recycle Audioslave for the rest of his life. I think the band might have got cheech and chiong to actually do little skits between songs but not sure if that's actually them or just a couple of guys who sound like them. Overall, this is a super fun album. In other news, still tripping on the Integrity, Starkweather and Sleepy Sun albums.
