Croatia's Stonebride made their debut a couple of years ago and it was an ordinary entrant into the stoner metal genre. New album Summon the Waves is marginally better. the songs are mid paced sluggish and 70s inspired and the vocalist spends much of the album trying to sing like layne staley and there's even a Mad Season moment on one of the songs. then the last song starts and its an epic 20 minute space rock jam with the vocalist finally letting loose and sounding like a hoarse jim morisson and the band jamming their asses off. Considering the number of albums I've heard recently with a couple of fantastic songs and mostly dull crap i'm quite happy downloading. Then heard Warbeast's Krush the Enemy[/b] which, produced by Phil Anselmo boasts a terrific sound and some catchy riffs and vocals that sound a lot like anselmo. Overall decent timepass fun. I'm been really getting into Slint's Spiderland. this is some awesome music. post rock before there was any post rock i guess.

Sons of Liberty - Brush Fires of the Mind I think this is the best thing Jon Schaffer's done since Something Wicked this Way Comes. the songs sounds like iced earth used to with Barlow and Schaffer surprisingly sounds a lot like Barlow when he's singing. The lyrics are the usual cheesy patriot lyrics but the songs are catchy and I'm constantly singing along to some pro America patriot speech when this album is on. It's free to download on the website and pretty damn good.
Sacrilege - within the prophecy & behind the realms of madness 2 albums from this British hardcore/thrash band from the late 80s. Sounds like early Metallica jamming with Minor Threat with chick vocals. Good fun.

Stoneaxe - II new album from this band and just as dull as their debut. Totally lifeless 70s rock inspired stoner shit.

Nevermore - The Obsidian Conspiracy Liking this a bit more with more listens and while the first song still sounds like a patchwork quilt of riffs and maybe about half the songs on the album are actually good while the rest are just boring. Also no really memorable leads and maybe just one memorable chorus on Emptiness Unobstructed.
Sleepy Sun - Fever Strange band, strange songs. Sort of mixing 70s psych rock with modern indie sounds, vocal harmonies, percussion and folk rock. I'd call this stoner psych folk rock and leave it. Would have been too hippie except that the songs are generally very good, the male/female dual vocals work really well together and the album is wrapped up in less than 45 minutes. Very nice.

Been on a major Aura Noir trip. Played Black Thrash Attack and The Merciless back to back. Impeccable black thrash - highly enjoyable. Now onto the new one...

Been spinning some recent acquisitions. I went on an orgy of spending last month. This month, I'll be good. Or try.
Ratt - Infestation Catchy as hell songs, great leads and a more ballsy sound than in their 80s heyday. This is the stuff that cock rock comebacks are made of.
Lynch Mob - Smoke & Mirrors See above.
Winger - Karma See above
Blut Aus Nord - Ultima Thulee Fantastic debut. A lot more 'conventional' than what would come later but with a few hints of the atonal sonic horror these guys would evolve into. I really can't find fault with anything these guys have done.
Macabre - Murder Metal What a terrific album! Demented vocals and occasional death growls blend into nursery rhyme choruses. All the songs are about serial killers with the lyrics written in an OTT tongue in cheek manner as opposed to the songs that make you feel slightly ill with their brutality like early CC. And a fantastic production job. Everything sounds razor sharp and raw and still very. Fucking brilliant start to finish.

Sleepy Sun - Fever This is a strangely addictive album. Reminds me at different times of Sabbath, Hawkwind, The New Pornographers and there's a strong current of blues rock that runs through the songs here. The dual male/female vocals work really well and overall, liking this one a lot.

Island - Pictures
Pretty nifty progressive rock from the 70's here. The songs are elaborately constructed - with tons of varied instruments and percussion (though not at all congested, the overall sound is quite minimal in fact) and rock-opera like structures with excellent production for the 70s. A touch folky at times and sometimes really jazzy here and there, but it mostly has a darkish vibe. Think Comus meets Anglagard meets Gentle Giant/Van de Graf. Damn good provided you have the patience to sit through 23 minute songs.
Souvenir's Young America
Cult of Luna with a harmonica. Not bad at all. Reminded me of Across Tundras or Disappearer.
Scorn - Refuse Start Fires
New album from ex-Napalm Death dark electronica man Mick Harris. Great to listen to at night - minimal stripped down beats with a tense and hypnotic background landscape. Basically worth getting if you are a fan of Blut Aus Nord's Procession of Dead Clowns - except there are electronic beats throughout the album instead of a drum machine.
Fatso Jetson - Archaic Volumes
Yes!! Awesome.
