^^ Suresh anna, check out Apostle of Solitude's Last Sunrise, might be the kind of doom you like.

Brant Bjork - Gods and Goddesses New album from the man and another album of smooth as silk stoner grooves and laid back melodies. Too smooth sometimes but great background music.

Apostle of Solitude - Last Sunrise Excellent second album from this American band. Considering all the praise that was heaped on Sincerest Misery which was a decent debut at best I was set to be underwhelmed by this new album. However it pleases me to say that Last Sunrise is a step up in every way from the debut. The songwriting doesn't rely on Sabbath as much and the band seem confident and on the verge of finding their own sound. December Drives Me To Tears, Letting Go Off the Wheel and a spanking cover of Emerald are the highlights but the album is just consistently good and solid even if not crushingly heavy, doom metal.

I got them both on queue. (edit: @GK)

I didn't like the new Burzum much. If it had any other name people probably won't be giving it as much credit as they are now.

The new Ludicra on the other hand is promising to be all sorts of awesome.

The new Scorpions...I'll just copy/paste the song by song tweet update that I did during my first listen. I will probably expand when and if I ever get back to reviewing.

I will take another one for the team and spin this farewell album by the Scorpions next.

1. Raised on Rock - Rock You Like a Pedestial Fan
2. Sting in the Tail: Driving American hard rock a la Aerosmith with chuggy modern guitars. What's with the robot voice though?
3. Slave Me: Quick Tease Me Please Me kind of a song with a Rainbow type chorus riff. Not a bad solo.
4. The Good Die Young: The mandatory first ballad where Meine watches the 'worl go roun'. Tarja (ex-Nightwish) guesting. More of a 90s pompous ballad.
5. No Limit: Rocking D chord shaped riff and it keeps getting heavier. Great singing and a superb solo. The best song yet.
6. Rock Zone: More American style heavy and fast rocking tune. Good, but this could be any LA type band. Solo sounds like a rush job.
7. Lorelei: More like 'Send Me A Lorelei'. My ship has passed you by? What kind of fool was I?..no one wondered why?
8. Turn You On: Not bad - straight up rocker with shouty big chorus. but Klaus, do we really need those Robert Plantesque 'sex' sounds?
9. Sly - Sounds more like a classic ballad than the world peace shit. Lon weiii hooomee!
10. Spirit of Rock: Worth it for the soaring high pitch Klaus hits before the solo break. Like the old times. Well crafted song overall.
11. The Best is Yet to Come: Epic farewell nostalgia lighter waving material. Made to be the show closer.

Overall, much better than expected and more songwriting credits than the last turd. One of rock n roll's true greats' last album is a 3/5, may be a 3.5. Would've been a 4 if they had Jabs' fills all over the place and had they sounded less anonymous and more like the Scorpions.

Alright. I also heard some other stuff recently trawling through your reviews:

High on Fire - Snakes for The Divine
Antimatter - Leaving Eden
Hammers of Misfortune - The Locust Years

Pretty good stuff even if I'm not entirely thrilled with the mixed vocals on HoF.

Gorillaz - Plastic Beach: Sure, its not a KVLT name, but this is the only new record i've heard this week. I felt it was tad too long, even though it clocks in at 58 minutes. The raps didn't hit the spot, but i enjoyed the instrumentals, and the easy going chilled out vibe of the solo Gorillaz stuff - essentially the tracks that are a direct product of only Damon Albarn. Maybe it'll grow on me.

Heard a LOT of music over the weekend - mostly old stuff. This included

Long Cold Winter - Cinderella: Terrific album start to finish. Cheerful white boy blues based hard rock that wasn't too overproduced. And Tom Keifer had a killer set of pipes.

Time Waits for No Slave - Napalm Death: I can't take this album in one sitting, but split into two seven song halfs it works a lot better. I seriously dislike the vocal processing that Barney's doing these days but the riffs and the lyrics make this an asskicking listen.

Post - Bjork: Fantastic album. Very weird without really falling off the deep end like Bjork would do on a lot of her subsequent albums.

Meantime - Helmet: It's no surprise that Page Hamilton can't write a riff worth shit these days. He's all burnt out doing stuff like the awesome barrage of killer riffage on Helmet's first 3 releases. Fantastic riff follows fantastic riff. Sheer fucking brilliance.

I also had a lot of fun showing my music system off to Trix and assailed her ears with so much noise; it reactivated the pain in her wisdom teeth and left her with a splitting headache.

More of the same over the last few days although I did hit on the perfect Sunday afternoon playlist with Farflung's The Raven that Ate the Moon,White Hills self titled new album and both dics of Hawkwind's Space Ritual. These three albums pretty left me with a cosmic voyage right in my room. Good stuff.

NP: Armored Saint - La Raza Pretty much usual Armored Saint and sounds like they still can't decide if they want to be an 80s hard rock band, a trad. heavy metal band or a modern and relevant heavy rock band. Bush still sounds great and there are some nice solos but over all another Saint album that I'll listen to for a couple of weeks off and on and then forget all about.
