Jedi Mind Tricks - Violent by Design

Oxbow's Let Me Be A Woman is awesome noisy rock. Not sure how to classify this but it doesn't have the softer slightly melodic parts that happen on A Narcotic Story and Eugene Robinson sounds a lot more demented. Heard a very bland tribute to Dimebag courtesy Metal Hammer with Zakk Wylde doing a lame ass cover of Suicide Note Pt.1, Machine Head doing an okay cover of Fucking Hostile, Evile doing Cemetery Gates and a whole bunch of trendy bands doing Pantera covers. Kicked the day of Ian Gillan's brilliant Future Shock Gillan is one of the most underrated lyricists out there and songs like No Laughing in Heaven are bonafide classics. Fantastic bass heavy production too with Bernie Torme in fine form on the leads. Superb album start to finish (even the 8 odd bonus tracks - mainly B-sides and singles are all worthwhile)

Currently hearing Saxon's The Eagle Has Landed easily one of the best live metal albums ever. Fuck. The vast succession of terrific songs on this is borderline unbelievable.

The Disappearers - The Clearing: Perfect album to start the day with. Its got the perfect mix of sludginess & trippiness, which slowly lulls you from your post-sleep drowsiness to a wider state of awakening. Recommended while brushing teeth.

Coalesce - Ox: Will need another listen to stamp opinion.

Been listening to more alt country with Scott H Biram's self styled "depression era metal" and his mix of country, blues, rock, punk and general ass kicking. Good stuff. Heard a terrific country/folk/bluegrass band called O' Death which is pure Americana but the music's wrapped up in a punk attitude and I really liked some of it. Also been playing Runemagick's Dark Dead Earth which is the re-issue of their first three albums in a double cd set up. Very powerful death metal with touches of doom and probably the only essential stuff the band ever recorded.

Hearing Return to Metaloplis by Chris Poland. An album of incredible ass kicking shred. A lot better than the more jazz-fusion inflected stuff he's put out.
