Amon Amarth - INSANE! The lead guitarist kept hitting bum notes but come on! It's an extreme metal band and when you're windmilling for 3/4ths of the song, some disorientation is bound to kick in. Fucking loved Twilight of the Thunder Gods, Guardians of Asgard and Death In Fire. They really killed it onstage. Imposing presence and a great act. The drummer was jaw-droppingly spot on and although Hegg was weaker than I expected, he still owned the stage that night.
Edit: Can't believe Amon Amarth didn't come back for an encore and was mega miffed that Textures got that much time onstage. No Pursuit of Vikings? W.T.F?
You must have been quite high to have enjoyed amon amarth that much

Agreed. I wasn't that impressed by them. They were good, no doubt but I expected more.

They had a massive guitar sound, the riffing was bloody solid, the drummer was spot-on for the most part and their mix was the best among all the bands of that evening. The soloing, as I've iterated was sub-par at best but it wasn't personally a deterrent for me because with extreme metal, all I really expect is a solid rhythm section.
I don't know about you guys but maybe I found an acoustic sweet spot or something. The sound was quite impressive where I was standing. The fact that I like the band enough certainly didn't hurt, either. All jokes about me being high aside, I think they beat the fuck out of every band that played before them, Textures included.
Can you state your case for thinking they weren't that good? I'd like to hear it, really. All anyone has come up with is "OH THEIR SOLOS SUCKED" and I'm not going to take that as a valid reason. If you haven't listened to enough material by the band or don't enjoy that kind of music, that again is more a personal issue and the band cannot be blamed for it. The band put up a good, professional show and I enjoyed it.

I never said Amon Amarth were bad. I'm a huge Amon Amarth fan and I've heard all their music but after watching Textures, damn. They were awesome!

Wait, by that reasoning, your trashing of Textures is equally irrelevant. I sort of like the djent sound (and I don't know about any oldschool vs nu djent angle), so if I go on and say Textures were weak, then suddenly it's a valid critique. But if someone who doesn't like start-stop chugging in the first place talks trash about the performance, it should be completely disregarded, right?

I dint think textures were that great either( sound wise) I felt their mix was way better during their sound check. I walked around for their set and it sounded pretty much the same where ever i stood.
Regarding amon amarth, i was standing all the way at the back so maybe thats why it sounded crappy, but i felt their mix was all over the place. It seemed like their sound guy had a tough time getting a perfect mix, which he managed to do by the end of their set. I did enjoy their last two songs though.
Also I wouldnt really go gaga over a band just coz they looked cool onstage. But yea i guess each person has their opinion. I wasnt impressed with either band but i enjoyed textures more than amon amarth. And after all the hype about how awesome they were supposed to be live, i guess i was just a lil bit disappointed. Stage act wise they were really cool, but that just dint do it for me.

It's a slippery slope, yes. I'm not saying I have a right to comment on Textures and you can't do the same about Amon Amarth dude. I hadn't heard enough of Textures to have an opinion on them before that night. I didn't like what I heard of them there. I thought their mix was horrible and the vocalist was not pulling off the clean vocals. The hollering was annoying and their songs all sounded the same.
What I based my opinion of Textures on was the fact that I had listened to and disliked enough djent (Aside: There's oldschool djent? I thought djent itself was just post Catch 33 Meshuggah type riffing). I object to random guys doing a drive by trashing of Amon Amarth's performance. I know it's an internet forum blah blah blah but it's also kvltsite. Bring some rationale, dammit.

What the hell is djent?
Amon Amarth had an albums worth of songs back in 1998 with Once Sent from the Golden Hall which they've been peddling with better and better production values over the course of the last ten years and subsequent 6 albums.
Textures has been peddling their brand of core values metal for 5 years and 3 albums and are already on the path of diminishing returns and catering to the masses.
I have no point to make apart from the fact that both bands are a bit redundant. Thanks :p
