Re:Rockout Boy - Heavy Gauge
Apr 08 2009 12:52:04 I'm going to add a seventh string to my guitar now. It's going to be an open V - hah!

Apr 08 2009 15:37:38 Zankyou! That was my Citizen Kane - now I shall get plastered and star in infomercials. "Hzzh? Ahhhhh thefrenjchampagne..hmm?"
About Triana, well - the short crop, the black getup and the disdain - yeah, similarity is there for sure. Totally unintentional, though. |

Apr 08 2009 16:52:11 Nice idea, but I thought the execution was a bit clunky.

Re:Rockout Boy - Heavy Gauge
Apr 08 2009 17:03:43 Which part in particular? Some parts of the layout weren't ideal (then again, it was even worse in the first draft but that's no consolation), but are you talking about something else?

Apr 08 2009 17:19:17 Awesome, although I'm kinda lost on the story - revisiting the other Rockout Boy strips.

The action poses look stiff and chunky and the guitar seems unusually fat. I like most of what I see, I think you just need to try making your lines thinner or something so the forms don't start to look overly bulky. This only being my opinion - you're probably shooting for a particular style here that I may not fully know or understand. |

Apr 08 2009 17:40:17 Yeah, but I'm being picky here. Constructively, I hope. Not that I can draw anything but minimum wage, myself.

Oh yeah, dynamic poses and anatomy are weak points of mine in general; that's something I really need to amend before I can go up a level. The guitar was a major pain in the ass, too - by the time I finished drawing, it had different shapes and sizes in all the panels. I did some patch-up work after that, but I guess it's still not ideal. This only being my opinion - you're probably shooting for a particular style here that I may not fully know or understand. Is true - I was trying the cel-shading effect (thick lines for the outer silhouettes, thinner lines for the insides), which I was interested in incorporating after seeing it used to good effect in some anime shows. It's been around in all 3 Rockout Boy strips, but I see your point - that style seems to work best with normal movements and poses. With action poses, they have the effect of fragmenting each element of the piece and breaking the flow a bit. Will have to see if I can come up with decent workarounds in the future. Yeah, but I'm being picky here. Constructively, I hope. No worries there. |
